Early on, SQL Server became the database of choice for the data backend to the websites.

Rollie's Story

I am a veteran, with 20 years of service in the U.S. Army, who had 2 tours of flying helicopters in Vietnam.

During the last 2 years in the Army, I lead a team to bring computers to the tactical Army down to the Brigade level.

After my military service, I was a systems engineer for Martin Marietta. I lead the customer support team for President Reagan's Star Wars program at the National Test Facility at Falcon Air Force Base.

My next endeavor was as the Customer Support manager at dbIntellect; the major service offered was a high-end targeted marketing mass mailing system,. The major customers were the credit card companies or banks. Chase was the most prminent customer.

Next, I was the VP of IT for Mile High United Way (MHUW) in Denver, CO. Being a hands-on IT manager, I developed an intranet web, which was focused on bringing the documents and spreadsheets used within various departements into the web world, with a database backend where commmon data, such as the United Way donors was maintained in one place and accessed by any department who needed to info.

Along the way with MHUW, I started a training program for the IT staff to teach them web and database development.

When I moved to Wisconsin for family reasons, I proposed to the MHUW President that I would take a significant pay cut and be a long-distance IT manager. I would be onsite for 1 week each month, to meet with my IT team, continue with their training and meet one-on-one with department leads to determine how IT could help them with their responsibilities. The MHUW President was hesitant. I told him that I would be online and available 9 hours a day, as I would not have to commute. I asked for a 6 month trial period and that if he, or the department leads or the IT staff were not pleased with my work, I would gladly walk away. I became MHUW's first remote employee. I was in that role for 3+ years.

Subsequently, I worked as IT contractor and later as a part-time web developer as I eased into semi-retirement.

Now, I work on individual web projects that interest me.

I am continuously going through web development online courses and tutorials to stay current with web development and correspondingly with database development.

I developed, maintain and support several websites for non-profits and other organizations. This includes 4 church websites and 2 veteran's organizations websites.
